Alert store employee saves couple from scam

On Tuesday, August 6, Columbia Valley RCMP received a phone call from an alert store employee in Invermere who reported a couple had come into the store and purchased $1,000 worth of Google cards.

“The employee suspected the couple was falling victim to a scam but the couple was confident they had received a legitimate request from their bank to purchase the cards. Police followed up with the couple and confirmed this was a scam,” reported Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment commander Sgt. Darren Kakuno.

The store allowed the couple to return the cards and refunded them their money.

“Columbia Valley RCMP would like to thank the store and employee for doing their part to ensure this couple did not fall victim to this scam,” Sgt. Kakuno added.
