Black bear sow and cub seen on village trail
WildSafeBC Columbia Valley this afternoon (August 20) reported that a black bear sow and cub have been spotted along the Sinclair Creek trail just off of the Canfor mill access in the Village of Radium Hot Springs.
Please be vigilant in the area, or avoid if possible. Walk in groups, make noise, don’t wear headphones, watch for fresh bear sign, keep your dog on a leash, and never feed or approach any wildlife.
In addition, WildSafeBC Columbia Valley reports that late Sunday night (Aug. 18) a black bear was reported to have accessed garbage left outdoors in Invermere’s Wilder neighbourhood (around 11th Avenue).
“It is extremely important to store garbage securely indoors, or in a bear-resistant container. Do not leave garbage curb-side before 8 a.m. on your scheduled day of pickup,” WildSafeBC advised.
“Pick any ripe fruit on your property and store securely. Take down bird and hummingbird feeders until November, clean barbecues thoroughly after each use, feed pets indoors, and maintain an odour-free compost.”
