Canal Flats erecting new highway entry sign
The Village of Canal Flats reported this morning that it is getting a second new highway entrance sign.
A new south entrance sign will complement the new north sign, which is scheduled to be installed in August.
The image above is a rendering of the sign to be built. It will be similar but distinct from the north highway sign and takes its cues from the present: the village’s, and Columbia Valley’s, vibrant colours and logos, incorporation of natural elements like wood and stone, and steel to represent the metal fabrication industry in the village, the village explained in a social media post.
The south sign project is a partnership between the village, the Columbia Valley Community Economic Development Commission, the Kootenay Rockies Tourism BC Catalyst Fund, with a small grant from BC Hydro. In all the village has contributed only $4,000 to the $76,000 south highway sign budget.
At its July 12 meeting, Village of Canal Flats council authorized award of the contract to construct the south sign to Selkirk Signs, a Cranbrook-based sign company. It is expected that the new south sign will be installed in the fall.
“The old signs have served the village well but are now very much starting to show their age. The large painted saw blade will be kept as a piece of Canal Flats’ history,” the village said.
