Columbia Valley RCMP Report

This past week, January 21 through 27, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 55 calls for service. The following are some of the more notable files our officers responded to.
School property defaced
On January 21, school administrators discovered someone had painted graffiti on mailboxes and on a school recycle bin at the JA Laird Elementary School in Invermere. The graffiti read “plugwalk.” Anyone with any information on who may be responsible for defacing this property is asked to contact the Columbia Valley RCMP.
Items stolen from shed
On January 21, a resident on Kootenay No 3 Road in Windermere reported someone had stolen a weed-eater, tools and gas cans from his shed over the weekend.
Impaired driver removed from road
On January 22, at 8:40 a.m., Columbia Valley RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver on Athalmer Road in Invermere. A grey Ford F150 was reportedly swerving all over the road. Officers located and stopped the driver as he was departing from a liquor store. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol the previous night. The driver provided two breath samples, which registered as “warns” indicating the driver’s blood alcohol concentration was between 60 and 99 mg%. The driver was issued a three-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded.
Impaired woman placed in cells for safety
On January 22, at about 7 p.m., a passerby reported a female, wearing all black, was laying on the side of Highway 95 just north of the Village of Radium Hot Springs. Officers attended and located an intoxicated adult female walking up the side of the highway. To ensure her safety, officers arrested the female and had her examined by ambulance paramedics before lodging her in cells for the evening. The female was released without charges the following morning.
Garage door spray painted
On January 23 a caretaker of a residence on 14th Street in Invermere reported someone had painted graffiti on a garage door sometime over the weekend. The graffiti was sprayed with white paint and looked like the letters “TDS.”
20-year-old man arrested for possession of stolen items
On January 23, an Invermere business discovered someone had stolen numerous items from their property including several chainsaws. Columbia Valley officers, with the assistance of the RCMP’s Forensic Identification Section, conducted a scene examination. A suspect was quickly identified and arrested on the same day. A search warrant was executed on the suspect’s residence on January 24 and several of the stolen items were recovered. A 20-year-old man from Invermere was released on conditions to appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
Male arrested for assault
On January 26, at about 9:30 a.m., police were called to a disturbance at a residence on Prospector Avenue in Radium Hot Springs. When officers arrived they learned several friends got into an argument, which ended in a physical altercation. After speaking to witnesses, officers arrested a 21-year-old male for assault. The male was held in cells until sober then released on conditions to appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
