This past week, August 5 through August 11, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 112 calls for service. The following are some of the more notable files our officers responded to.
Dump truck taken for joy ride
On Tuesday, August 6 the operator of a dump truck reported someone had broken into his truck while it was parked at Dry Gulch sometime over the long weekend. The truck sustained damage to the lock and dash and it appeared someone had taken it for a joy ride.
Delivery truck snags power line in Edgewater
On Wednesday, August 7, at 2:40 p.m., police were called to a downed power line on Riverview Drive in Edgewater. Police responded and discovered a delivery truck had snagged an overhead power line and the line landed on top of the delivery truck. The driver remained in his vehicle until BC Hydro was able to remove and deactivate the line. Nobody was injured during this incident.
Transport slams into vehicle turning into national park attraction
On Thursday, August 8, at about 8 a.m., police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 93 at the north end of Kootenay National Park. The driver of a southbound Nissan Sentra was attempting to make a left turn into the Stanley Glacier parking lot when he was hit from behind by a commercial transport truck. The driver and passenger were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the transport truck was issued a violation ticket for following too close.
Removed patron ticketed for trespass
Saturday, August 10, at about 1 a.m., an officer was conducting a bar walk at an establishment on 13th Street in Invermere when the officer was advised a patron had climbed a wall to get back onto their balcony minutes after being removed from the bar for his behaviour. The officer detained the individual for trespassing and served him with a violation ticket for Trespassing at a Premise.
90 ā 30 for impaired driver
On Sunday, August 11, at about 2:50 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop with a Toyota Rav4 on 13th Street and 4th Avenue in Invermere. The driver admitted to having two drinks during the course of the evening. The driver submitted to a roadside breath demand and blew two āfailsā meaning her blood/alcohol concentration was over 100 mg/%. The driver was served a 90-day driving prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Man ticketed for being intoxicated in public
On Sunday, August 11, at 3:30 a.m., police were advised of a male passed out on a bench near 7th Avenue and 5th Street in Invermere. Police spoke to the male who was found to be intoxicated and not able to care for himself. The male was arrested under the Liquor Control and Licensing Act and held in cells until he was sober. The adult male was issued a violation ticket for being intoxicated in a public place.
Truck stolen in Radium
On Sunday, August 11, a Radium Hot Springs resident reported her red 1990 Ford F250 was stolen sometime overnight from a parking lot in the 7400 block of Columbia Avenue. Video surveillance showed an individual approach the vehicle at 2:47 a.m. and depart in the truck at 2:51 a.m. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Columbia Valley RCMP.
B&E/theft suspect identified by video
On Sunday, August 11, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter and theft at a residence on 9th Street in Invermere. Police were able to identify a suspect through video surveillance. Later the same day a 50-year-old female from Invermere was arrested for break and enter and theft under $5,000. The female was released on conditions to attend court at a later date.
No injuries in national park crash
On Sunday, August 11, at about 12:30 p.m., police responded to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 93 in Kootenay National Park. The driver of a Ford Mustang reportedly began fishtailing on the wet highway and ended up going into the ditch. The driver was not injured.
