This past week, August 26 through September 1, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 92 calls for service. The following are some of the more notable files to which our officers responded.
Observant officer spies prohibited driver operating car
On Monday, August 26, at about 7:15 p.m., an officer was making patrols in Invermere when she observed an individual she knew to be a prohibited driver operating a car on Athalmer Road. The officer conducted a traffic stop and confirmed the adult male was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle. The driver was served an Appearance Notice to attend court at a later date and the vehicle was towed.
Boat motor stolen from Fairmont property
On Tuesday, August 27, a resident reported his Yamaha 9.9 horsepower boat motor was stolen from a property on Fairmont Creek Road in Fairmont Hot Springs sometime prior to August 15.
RCMP conduct boat patrols on Lake Windermere
On Wednesday, August 28, Columbia Valley RCMP conducted boat patrols on Lake Windermere. Officers checked approximately thirty-five boats. The vast majority of boat operators were compliant with all regulations and were happy to see a police presence on the lake. One warning was issued for operating a vessel without the required safety equipment.
Intoxicated and lost equals night in cells
On Thursday, August 29, at 12:10 a.m., police received a report of an intoxicated male looking through windows at a residence on Lakeview Close in Windermere. Police located the individual nearby and determined he was trying to find the residence he was staying at. The male was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and held in cells until he was sober.
Three sent to hospital after Toby Creek Road rollover
On Thursday, August 29, at about 2:15 a.m., police responded to a single-vehicle collision on Toby Creek Road. The driver of a Jeep YJ was driving from Panorama to Invermere when she lost control and rolled the Jeep. The driver and two passengers were transported the hospital to be assessed.
Four sent to hospital after Toby Cut Off UTV rollover
On Friday, August 30, at 2 p.m., police responded to a side-by-side rollover on Toby Cut Off Road in Invermere. Four females had been operating a side-by-side when the driver lost control and rolled the UTV. The four females were transported to the hospital to be assessed.
Single-vehicle crash on Toby Creek Road
On Saturday, August 31, at 6:30 p.m., police attended a single-vehicle collision on Toby Creek Road near Invermere. The driver of a Nissan Altima failed to negotiate a curve in the road and went into the ditch. The driver was not injured but his vehicle had to be towed from the ditch.
Back to school time
Columbia Valley RCMP would like to remind drivers that children are back to school this week and school speed zones will be in effect.
School buses will also resume services. When you see a school bus with alternating flashing red lights, you must stop whether you are approaching it from the front or the rear. The fines for speeding in a school zone range from $196 to $483. The fine for passing a school bus with its lights activated is $368.
