This past week, September 2 through September 8, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 69 calls for service. The following are some of the more notable files to which our officers responded.

Excessive speeding nets vehicle impoundment

On Monday, September 2 at 5:45 p.m., a Columbia Valley officer was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 93/95 in Radium Hot Springs when he clocked a black pickup traveling 140 km/h in a 90 km/h speed zone. The driver was issued a violation ticket for Excessive Speed and Failing to Display ‘N’ Sign. The vehicle was impounded for seven days.

90-day IRP and vehicle impoundment for impaired driver

On Tuesday, September 3 at about 1 a.m., police received a report of a Jeep Liberty driving erratically on Capilo Way in Invermere. Police attended the area and located the Jeep pulled off to the side of the road. The officer entered into a care and control investigation after smelling a strong odour of liquor coming from the driver. The driver submitted to a roadside breath test and blew a fail. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition (IRP) and his vehicle was impounded.

Arrest for possession of stolen property in Radium

On Thursday, September 5, police were alerted to a suspicious red Ford pickup parked in an alley behind Main Street in Radium Hot Springs. Police attended and located an adult male sitting in the driver’s seat of the pickup. While speaking to the driver, officers observed what they suspected to be stolen copper wire in the box of the pickup. The driver was arrested for possession of stolen property and released on conditions. The investigation is ongoing.

Warn results in three day IRP and impoundment

On Friday, September 6 at 11:45 a.m., a Columbia Valley officer conducted a traffic stop with a white Ford Explorer on Borden Street in Invermere. The officer discovered the driver was prohibited from driving and had an odour of liquor on her breath. The driver submitted to a breath test which resulted in a “warn.” As a result, the driver was issued a three-day Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for three days. She was also served an Appearance Notice to attend court at a later date for driving while prohibited.
