Columbia Valley RCMP Report

This past week, December 9 through December 15, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 43 calls for service. The following are some of the more notable files to which our officers responded.

Fleeing vehicle found later in national park

On Wednesday, December 11, at about 1:30 a.m., Columbia Valley RCMP received a report of a suspicious black Nissan Armada driving around the Timber Ridge area. An officer immediately attended the area and located the Nissan Armada. However, the vehicle fled northbound on Highway 93/95 when the officer activated his lights and siren. The officer did not pursue the vehicle out of concern for public safety. The vehicle was located later in the day abandoned in Kootenay National Park. The vehicle was confirmed to be stolen out of Okotoks, Alberta.

Unlocked vehicle stolen in Windermere

On Wednesday, December 11, a resident reported a grey Volkswagen Passat was stolen from his residence on Hilltop Road in Windermere sometime overnight. Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles and remove the keys and valuables.

Wallet stolen from another Hilltop Road vehicle

On Wednesday, December 11, a resident on Hilltop Road in Windermere reported his wallet was stolen out of his vehicle sometime overnight. There was no forced entry into the vehicle.

Items stolen in vehicle B&E in Radium

On Wednesday, December 11, a resident on Prospector Avenue in Radium Hot Springs reported someone had rummaged through her vehicle and stole several items including a GPS unit and sunglasses. There was no forced entry into the vehicle.

Driver uninjured in crash near Edgewater

On Friday, December 13, at about 1:15 p.m., police, fire and ambulance responded to a single vehicle motor vehicle incident on Highway 95 near Edgewater. The driver of a Suzuki SX4 was southbound when he lost control of his vehicle and slid into the ditch. The driver was uninjured but the vehicle had to be towed.

Prohibited driver tagged in traffic stop

On Saturday, December 14, at 4:45 p.m., a Columbia Valley RCMP officer conducted a traffic stop with a GMC Sierra on Highway 93/95 near Invermere. The officer determined the driver was prohibited from driving and as a result, arrested then released the individual on a Promise to Appear in court at a later date.
