This past week, January 27 through February 2, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 68 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files to which officers responded.
Driver hospitalized after crash near Canal Flats
On Monday, January 27, at about 11:15 a.m., Columbia Valley RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 93/95 near Canal Flats. The driver of a Ford Fiesta was northbound when he left the roadway and went into the ditch. The incident was believed to be precipitated by a medical emergency. The driver and lone occupant was transported to the hospital by ambulance to be assessed.
Suspect identified in liquor shoplifting
On Wednesday, January 29, at about 11 a.m., police received a report of a shoplifter at a grocery store in Fairmont Hot Springs. A male allegedly stole several bottles of liquor. A suspect has been identified and police continue to investigate.
Arrested for being intoxicated in a public place
On Friday, January 31, at about 10 p.m., police responded to a report of an intoxicated male causing a disturbance in Fairmont Hot Springs. Officers attended the area and located the male who was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place. The male was provided a ride home and released without charges.
Violation ticket for driver for failing to obey a traffic control device
On Saturday, February 1, at about 9:30 p.m,, Columbia Valley RCMP received information from Parks Canada that a black Jeep with two occupants had driven through the park gates on Highway 93, which was closed at the time due to the avalanche risk. The Jeep was located and the driver claimed he was unaware of the highway closure. The driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to obey a traffic control device.
Police ensure loud, violent party concluded
On Sunday, February 2, at about 1:30 a.m., police received a complaint of a loud party on 7th Avenue in Invermere. Police attended and learned a fight had broken out between two groups and the individuals had since departed. Police remained in the area until those attending the party departed safely.
