Columbia Valley RCMP Report

This past week, February 17 through February 23, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 51 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files to which our officers responded.
Tailgating steers driver into impaired charge in Kootenay Park
On Monday, February 17 at about 3 p.m., an officer was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 93 in Kootenay National Park when he observed a vehicle following other traffic dangerously close. The officer conducted a traffic stop and while speaking with the driver, he detected an odour of liquor. The driver submitted to a breath demand and blew two fails. As a result, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Officer helps stuck men out of backcountry
On Tuesday, February 18 at about 11 p.m., Columbia Valley RCMP was advised that two men had gotten their vehicles stuck near Dogleg Lake and were going to walk back to the main road. An RCMP officer attended the area and provided the men a ride back to Radium Hot Springs. Neither of the men were injured.
Two-vehicle crash near Windermere Loop Road
On Friday, February 21 at 10:55 a.m., police responded to a two-vehicle collision near Windermere Loop Road in Windermere. A commercial transport truck and trailer reportedly struck a Dodge Ram pickup after the commercial transport trailer crossed into the oncoming lane. No injuries were reported. The driver of the commercial transport truck was issued a violation ticket for failing to keep right and failing to maintain an accurate log book.
Running Jeep nicked from business
On Saturday, February 22 at 6:20 p.m., the owner of a black Jeep Wrangler with B.C. license plate FA518C reported the theft of his Jeep. The owner said he had parked his Jeep at a business on Arrow Road in Invermere and left the keys in the ignition while he went inside. When he returned about four minutes later his Jeep was gone. Police continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Columbia Valley RCMP or Crimestoppers.
Intoxicated man spends night in cells
On Saturday, February 22 at about 11:20 p.m., police received a report of an intoxicated male in downtown Invermere. Police located the intoxicated male near 10th Avenue and 13th Street. The male was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and, after being assessed by paramedics, the male was transported to cells. Officers were concerned about the individualās ability to care for himself so he was held in cells until he was sober. Upon his release, the male was served a violation ticket for being intoxicated in a public place.
