This past week, July 12 through July 18, the Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 104 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.
Minor injuries in national park tractor trailer rollover
On Monday, July 12 at about 3:30 a.m., emergency crews responded to a tractor trailer rollover on Highway 93 in Kootenay National Park. The driver of a westbound Volvo tractor trailer failed to negotiate a curve. The truck and trailer blocked all three lanes of traffic. The driver sustained minor injuries.
Tractor trailer crash near Marble Canyon lands driver in Banff Hospital
On Tuesday, July 13 at about 6:20 a.m., emergency crews responded to a tractor trailer rollover on Highway 93 near Marble Canyon in Kootenay National Park. The driver of the truck and trailer failed to negotiate a curve, crossed into the oncoming lane and struck a concrete post before the truck came to a rest on its side. The driver was transported to the Banff Hospital with minor injuries.
Driver arrested after colliding with parked vehicles
On Friday, July 16 at about 7:40 a.m., emergency crews responded to a vehicle which had collided into two parked vehicles on 10th Avenue near 10th Street, in Invermere. The driver, who was travelling southbound, crossed the northbound lane and struck the vehicles. A subsequent Criminal Code investigation was initiated when officers suspected that the driver was under the influence of a drug. The driver ultimately refused to provide a blood sample under a lawful demand. The driver was arrested and released for a later court appearance.
Driver gets impaired charge after crashing into ditch
On Friday, July 16 at about 8:20 p.m., RCMP was called to a gas station in Windermere where a truck had missed a turn and ended up in the ditch. Two breath samples were obtained from the driver and were both above the legal limit. The officer seized the licence of the driver for 90 days and impounded the pickup truck for 30 days.
