CVSAR respond to five calls in a week
Columbia Valley Search and Rescue (CVSAR) this morning released a summary of five calls its members responded to during the week July 3 – 10.
Bugaboo injured climber
Columbia Valley Search and Rescue and Golden Search and Rescue (GADSAR) Friday, July 3, responded to an injured person on Crescent Glacier in Bugaboo Provincial Park. The subject was assessed, packaged and transported to Golden via helicopter. CVSAR would like to thank Big Horn Helicopters and Alpine Helicopters for their assistance as well.
Mt. Goldie medical evacuation
On Monday, July 6, CVSAR was requested to assist a group of hikers on Mt. Goldie near Panorama after one of the party had become ill. Coldstream Helicopters flew a team of CVSAR volunteers to the location to assess and evacuate the group.
Overdue hikers in Height of the Rockies Provincial Park
CVSAR was called to assist Kananaskis Public Safety and RCMP between Tuesday, July 7 and Wednesday, July 8, after two people were reported overdue while hiking near the Alberta and British Columbia border. Coldstream Helicopters flew a team to the area to search before dark. Teams from Kananaskis and Columbia Valley were deployed early in the morning of July 8 to resume the search and the subjects were located that morning. The subjects were flown back to Kananaskis.
Injured hiker on Mt. Swansea
On Thursday afternoon (July 9), CVSAR was requested by BC Ambulance Service to respond to reports of an injured hiker on Mt. Swansea. The team used a wheeled basket stretcher to evacuate the subject to the waiting ambulance.
Downed Glider
CVSAR was Friday, July 10 alerted to reports of a downed glider east of the Invermere airport. A hasty team and an RCMP member initially flew to the crash site to assess the situation. A second team, which included a doctor, was also flown to the scene while mutual aid was en route from Kimberley and Golden Search and Rescue Teams. The subject was evacuated using a rope rescue system and transferred by helicopter to Invermere hospital.
