High avalanche hazard and delays in mountain parks

Parks Canada would like to advise travellers to expect delays if travelling through Banff, Yoho and Kootenay national parks this weekend.

An incoming weather system is expected to impact Banff, Yoho and Kootenay national parks beginning tonight, Friday, January 31. Warm temperatures mixed with heavy precipitation will result in elevated avalanche danger and possible extended closures to allow for highway avalanche control.

Delays and closures are expected to impact the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1), Icefields Parkway (Highway 93 N) and Highway 93 S through Kootenay National Park.

CheckĀ DriveBCĀ andĀ Alberta 511Ā for current road conditions before driving through the national parks.

For visitors planning on recreating in the backcountry this weekend, be sure to check the avalanche forecast atĀ avalanche.pc.gc.caĀ before heading out.
