Impaired driver had three children in vehicle
Columbia Valley RCMP last Friday afternoon arrested a Calgary man for impaired driving. The man had three children in the vehicle under the age of six.
On June 14, at about 4:15 p.m. numerous calls were received about a possible impaired driver who was driving from shoulder to shoulder through Kootenay National Park on Highway 93.
The male driver stopped at one point and threw up on the side of the road, reported Sgt. Darren Kakuno, Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment commander.
Officers responded and located the vehicle as it crossed the highway centre line forcing a police vehicle onto the shoulder near Stoddart Creek Road and Highway 93/95.
A traffic stop was conducted and an impaired driving investigation was initiated which resulted in the driver, a 42-year-old male from Calgary, being arrested for impaired driving. The driver provided breath samples that were over the legal limit.
The vehicle was towed and impounded and officers contacted the mothers of the children to make arrangements to get them home safely.
The driver was held in cells until he was sober and released on a Promise to Appear in court at a later date.
