101-year-old raises $30,000 for food bank

The Columbia Valley Food Bank’s coffers are receiving a lovely top up thanks to the efforts of 101-year-old Jim Ashworth.

A Royal Canadian Air Force pilot during the Second World War, Jim decided to do what a couple of fellow air force veterans completed weeks earlier – to walk 101 blocks and raise funds for a cause.

The District of Invermere June 7 shared the above photo on Facebook, noting, “Jim Ashworth completed his personal goal of walking a total of 101 blocks to raise money for the local food bank yesterday! Jim has raised over $30,000 in donations, way to go Jim!”

Amen to that!

In the above photo, Jim Ashworth, right, is joined by District of Invermere Mayor Al Miller on the steps of the Columbia Valley Food bank, along with food bank representatives.
