Rockies retiring jersey of deceased player tonight

The Columbia Valley Rockies are honouring a deceased team member by retiring his jersey prior to this evening’s tilt against the Creston Valley Thunder Cats at the Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena in Invermere.

“Tonight we retire jersey # 20 and pay tribute to one of our own, Jayden Jefferson, who passed away from a car accident this past October. #number20inthesky #rockieshockey #kijhl #invermere,” the Rockies tweeted earlier today (Jan. 5).

The Rockies enter tonight’s game with a one point hold on second place in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League Eddie Mountain Division, ahead of third place Fernie Ghostriders. The Rockies hold a game in hand, too.

The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.

The Kimberley Dynamiters remain the cream of the division and Kootenay Conference, with a sparkling 28 win, four loss and one tie record. The Nitros 57 points have them 15 ahead of the 19-10-4 Rockies. The Ghostriders sport an 18-11-2-3 record.

Creston Valley enters tonight’s game in last place in the Eddie, sporting a nine win, 23 loss and two overtime loss record.

Fernie takes on Kimberley this evening at the Civic Centre. Game time is 7 p.m.
