The B.C. Principals’ & Vice-Principals’ Association (BCPVPA) last week welcomed its 2020-2021 Board of Directors, representing school-based and district leaders in the public school system.

Darren Danyluk (School District No. 6, Rocky Mountain) assumed the role of BCPVPA President on July 1 following the conclusion of President David DeRosa’s two-year term.

Darren is a Principal of David Thompson Secondary School in Invermere and has been an educator for more than 30 years.

David will continue on the Board as Past President until June 30, 2021.

The 2020-2021 Directors of the Board are Tom Aerts (SD61, Greater Victoria), Susan Clough (SD36, Surrey), Carmen Eberle (SD35, Langley), Bev Forster (SD54, Bulkley Valley), Heidi Grant (SD91, Nechako Lakes), Sid Jawanda (SD57, Prince George), Read Jorgensen (SD61, Greater Victoria), Brian Leonard (SD43, Coquitlam), Jacqueline Taylor (SD22, Vernon) and Sally Zryd (SD73, Kamloops-Thompson).

The 2020-2021 board took office on July 1 and will continue to guide the BCPVPA in providing advocacy and professional development support for 2,595 members employed as Vice-Principals, Principals and District Principals in B.C.’s 60 school districts.

The board will also support the BCPVPA’s focused work, foremost of which is the pursuit of fair and equitable terms of employment for B.C.’s Principals and Vice-Principals as the Association continues to seek recognition by the B.C. government to act as the negotiating representative for our members.

In this challenging and changeable year, the BCPVPA will continue to support our members as they lead the operation of their K-12 public schools during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond, and will continue to collaborate with government and education sector partners to better support leaders and their development at all levels in public education, the organization stated in a media release.
