Local author keynote speaker for Headbanger Festival

In less than a month the Village of Radium Hot Springs’ most famous citizens (sorry Rolf) will once again become the focal point of the Headbanger Festival.

A celebration of the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep herd that calls Radium home, as well as all nature and the environment, the annual Headbanger Festival blends education with entertainment and if you’re lucky, cool photos of rams vying for females.

This year’s festival runs Friday, Nov. 2 to Sunday, Nov. 4, with the Saturday evening dinner featuring keynote speaker Dave Butler.

Dave Butler is a forester, biologist, novelist and photographer from Cranbrook. He’s the author of the Jenny Willson mystery series. The first novel in the series, Full Curl, won the Arthur Ellis Award for Best First Crime Novel in Canada in 2018, and was short-listed for the 2018 Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writer Award in the mystery category.

Dave is also Director of Sustainability at Canadian Mountain Holidays, a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society, and a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal.

The Lorax to The Monkey Wrench Gang to Full Curl: the role of ‘eco-fiction’ in conservation will be Dave’s topic on the evening.
