Environment Canada this afternoon issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Columbia Valley as well as for Yoho and Kootenay National Parks.

“Conditions are favourable late this afternoon and tonight for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, hail and heavy rain,” Environment Canada stated.

Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Environment Canada also reports a severe thunderstorm watch for the Cranbrook, Kimberley and Elk Valley areas has ended.
