One person was airlifted by STARS and five others were taken to hospital after the pickup they were in rolled three times last Thursday evening at Brisco.

Columbia Valley RCMP was dispatched to a single vehicle rollover on Brisco Road in Brisco on June 9 at 10:40 p.m.

BC Ambulance advised they were attending for a pickup that had rolled with six occupants who had minor injuries.

Upon attending the scene, police noted a Ford F350 roadside on the gravel road with extensive damage. The 20-year-old Invermere driver stated he swerved to avoid a deer, fishtailed and lost control. The driver was ejected out the driver’s side window. Passengers in rear seat were not ejected, despite only one of them was wearing a seatbelt. Ambulance and Fire Rescue attended and assessed all victims.

Most extensive injuries were sore necks and hip pain. STARS attended and assessed all victims, only opting to transport one passenger who had injuries severe enough.

The remaining occupants were transported by BC Ambulance and a friend to Invermere & District Hospital.

“The vehicle was written off with extensive body and frame damage. The vehicle was taped off until it could be towed the following morning,” reported Cpl. Grant Simpson of Columbia Valley RCMP

Simpson said the driver stated he was travelling at approximately 60 km/h and swerved to avoid a deer on gravel in a new lifted truck. The vehicle rolled approximately three times.

The driver will be issued a violation ticket for “operating a vehicle with too many persons in vehicle and fail to wear seat belt,” Simpson said.
