Teck Regional Snow Camp held at Panorama

The Teck Regional Snow camp (Kootenay) took place on November 30 – Dec 2 at Panorama Mountain Resort.

The Toby Creek Nordic Ski Club hosted 37 athletes from Fernie, Golden, Kimberley and Invermere’s Toby Creek Nordic ski clubs.

With the skilled leadership of Graham McLean (Cross Country BC) and Ted Bigelow (Toby Creek Nordic Ski Club), the camp focused on athletes eight to 14 years-of-age (LTAD Learning to Train and Training to Train (1) stages of athlete development). Amongst the skating and classic technique refinement, athletes participated in numerous ski games with an emphasis on keeping skiing fun, encouraging team mates, making new friends, leadership and managing adversity.

The camp was a unique experience for athletes and coaches who were shuttled up and down the ski lifts to the 2,450m/8,038 ft summit of Panorama. Perfectly groomed skate and classic tracks met the athletes that travelled along outback ridge to the ‘Monster’ Plateau teaching grid and trails. The cross country ski trails and world class vistas provided the athletes with an exclusive environment for technique development and competition preparation.

A huge thank you goes out the Panorama Mountain Resort team whose vision and determination provided an outstanding high altitude cross country ski success. Also, a big thank you to all of the coaches, volunteers, and athletes for making this first camp a success and to Teck Resources Ltd. for its support.
