Temporary closures continue at valley hot springs

Two of the main tourism draws to the Columbia Valley remain closed today (Jan. 14) for two different safety concerns.

Fairmont Hot Springs Resort reported this morning via Facebook that Interior Health Authority (IH) has requested additional technical information in regard to sump and piping sizing for the main drains in the public pools.

“Once the review of these new items and the previously submitted inspection reports has been completed by IH, we will be able to give another update on the status and potential dates of re-opening. We will post updates as and when we receive further information from the IH,” the resort explained.

“The safety of our guests is our primary concern and once again, we apologize for any inconvenience this temporary closure might cause.”

The resort also noted its guest-exclusive hot springs pool is open and the temporary closure only affects the public pools.

Radium Hot Springs Pools (hot and cool) also remain closed for the safety of staff and visitors due to structural safety concerns in the wet hall, Kootenay National Park notes on its website.

More information will be provided once available.
