On June 17, Michael Midyette, Scott Lawlor, Jack Nordquist and Ryan Sorensen hosted their Golfathon for ALS from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Windermere Valley Golf Course.

To keep things interesting, the foursome made unique rules for some of the rounds, such as switching clubs or only using one club for the whole round. At the end of the day they had played a total of 1,260 holes.

“I’ve participated [in the Golfathon] for many years,” said Michael Midyette, PGA of BC Head Golf Professional at Windermere Valley Golf Course. “It’s an amazing event to be held across B.C. For numerous people to come together and contribute to a good cause, it truly is something great.”

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a fatal neurodegenerative disorder that affects the person’s motor neurons that carry messages to the muscles resulting in weakness and wasting in arms, legs, mouth, throat and elsewhere; typically the person is immobilized within two to five years of the initial diagnosis. There is no known cause or cure yet, but there is hope through the ALS Society of BC.

Proceeds from the Golfathon for ALS provide crucial support services to ALS patients and their families, friends, and caregivers.
