$20k aim for BCSPCA fundraiser
BC SPCA East Kootenay Branch hopes to raise $20,000 at their largest fundraiser of the year.
City of Cranbrook Mayor Lee Pratt, City of Kimberley Mayor Don McCormick, and a host of 15 other Cranbrook and Kimberley citizens will be “LOCKED UP” to help with the cause.
The BC SPCA East Kootenay Branch is gearing up to hold their largest fundraiser of the year, The BCSPCA’s Most Wanted Kennel Lock In. It will take place on June 1 from 1-4 p.m. outside of Boston Pizza.
There are 17 amazing community members from Cranbrook and Kimberley taking part in this initiative in hopes of raising $20,000 to go towards medical costs at the East Kootenay Branch. The East Kootenay Branch takes in over 900 animals a year. The medical costs exceeded $85,000 in 2015 and it is expected that this cost will increase in 2016.
Branch manager Brenna Baker says, “We are very proud that our live release rate,( which is more animals finding forever homes and having healthy, happy lives), is now at 94%. This is great news but it also means our medical costs are at an all-time high. We are saving more lives but a lot of the animals that come into our care not only need a spay/neuter and vaccinations but they also may need dental work or emergency medical. The minimum dental cost that we have had this year has been $850. This fundraiser will go towards helping with some of these costs.”
The way the fundraiser works is people can pledge the participants in person or online at snapd.at/pewvz2w. In order to lock up the BC SPCA’s Most Wanted there needs to be a minimum of $1,000 in pledges for that individual prior to June 1.

On June 1, the participants will be picked up by the BC SPCA’s Cruelty Officer and locked in the kennel that will be set up outside of Boston Pizza. There will also be a Beers for Barks Pub Night at Boston Pizza on June 1 beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 and include a beer and a burger, live music by Wild Honey, a silent auctions and loads of fun!
