Basin PLAYS conference Oct. 26
On Oct 26 there is the Basin PLAYS in Action Conference at the Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort in Cranbrook.
It runs from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and has amazing keynote, plenary and breakout sessions. Registration for the day is only $30 and includes lunch. This day is for anyone who supports children and youth to be active. You can find out more at basinplays.org Registration deadline is Oct. 21 at 4 p.m.
On Sunday, Oct. 27 there are a number of certification courses being offered as post conference workshops (also at the Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort in Cranbrook).
The Aboriginal Coaching Module: facilitated by the Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council (ISPARC) is an interactive workshop available to both Aboriginal and mainstream organizations who have Aboriginal youth in their sport, social, or employment programs.
All Youth Matter Inclusion Training: this training will provide you with tools, techniques and best practices to create inclusive sport, recreation and physical activity experiences for youth from marginalized populations.
HIGH FIVE Strengthening Children’s Mental Health: is an early identification awareness and response program that will educate recreation staff and supervisors on how to promote mental wellness in programs, build resiliency in children, recognize when children may be struggling with mental health challenges and how to support children and their families should they need assistance.
NCCP – Making Ethical Decisions: by successfully completing the NCCP Make Ethical Decisions training, coaches will be fully equipped to handle ethical situations with confidence and surety. The training helps coaches identify the legal, ethical, and moral implications of difficult situations that present themselves in the world of team and individual sport.
NCCP – Teaching & Learning: upon completing the five-hour Teaching and Learning module coaches will be able to assess their own beliefs regarding effective teaching, analyze certain coaching situations to determine if they promote learning and create conditions that promote learning and self-esteem.
Registration for each course is only $15 and includes lunch.
