BBBS celebrates 40th with Helping Hands campaign

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cranbrook (BBBS) is looking for local retailers to help execute fundraising and awareness campaign during the month of September

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cranbrook (BBBS) is celebrating its 40th anniversary this September in conjunction with the national Big Brothers Big Sisters Month. To mark the occasion, throughout the month of September, BBBS is rolling out a fundraising campaign called Helping Hands.

Helping Hands aims to attract more mentors and raise money to support and strengthen the organization’s long history and impact in Cranbrook, explained Jordan MacDonald, Executive Director.

“We are asking several local retail stores to participate in the Helping Hands campaign to raise funds for the organization throughout the month of September. So far we have Max’s Place, Home Hardware and Arby’s (pictured above) signed up to lend a helping hand, but welcome any other local businesses who may want to be involved,” MacDonald said, adding, “The way the campaign works is that cashiers ask customers if they would be willing to support the local BBBS by making a $2 donation to BBBS Cranbrook, or alternatively, by rounding up their purchase to the nearest dollar. If the customer consents the cashier receives the donation on behalf of the organization and the customer will sign a Helping Hands cut-out that can be displayed in store in recognition of the store’s and individual’s contribution to the organization.”

By participating in this campaign local retailers and individuals are providing funding needed for BBBS Cranbrook professional, trained staff to carefully screen volunteers and match them in long-term, safe mentoring relationships with local children, while providing necessary ongoing management and support for the volunteers, children, and families all free of charge.

Serving as role models, BBBS mentors teach by example the importance of giving and giving back, of staying in school, and of having respect for family, peers, and community.

By supporting BBBS Cranbrook, you are helping to ensure children in the community reach their full potential, resulting in positive outcomes such as a reduction in poverty and unemployment.
