The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) has announced the nominees for the 10 major awards that will be presented at the annual CHL Awards Ceremony and Cranbrook’s Bowen Byram is the Western Hockey League (WHL) nominee for the Sherwin-Williams Top Prospect Award.

The Vancouver Giants blueliner is nominated along with Ontario Hockey League’s Arthur Kaliyev of the Hamilton Bulldogs and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Raphael Lavoie of the Halifax Mooseheads.

The NHL Central Scouting’s second-ranked North American skater ahead of the 2019 Draft, Byram continued to draw attention through the WHL postseason, guiding the Giants to Game 7 of the Ed Chynoweth Cup Final. He is also rated as the third overall pick for the draft by TSN’s Craig Button.

In 22 postseason appearances, Byram collected eight goals and 18 assists for a team-leading 26 points that also sat atop the WHL in playoff scoring. Earlier this season, Byram was recognized as the CHL Player of the Week following a franchise record-setting performance when he put up five points in a single game.

He finished the 2018-19 regular season with 71 points in 67 contests, including his 26 goals that ranked first among all WHL blue-liners. Over three seasons in Vancouver, he has recorded 32 goals and 66 assists for 98 points in 138 games.

The awards take place tomorrow, Saturday, May 25, as part of the 2019 Memorial Cup festivities in Halifax.
