Bowl for Kids Sake is April 27 and 28

Sign-up a team of four to six players for this fun adult-oriented charitable bowling event

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cranbrook is encouraging local businesses, organizations, and individuals to register a team early for their annual Bowl for Kids Sake fundraiser, being held April 27 and 28 this year, from 7 – 10 p.m., at Juniper Lanes in Cranbrook.

“Due to popular demand we’ve spread the event over two nights to better accommodate all the teams,” said Jordan MacDonald, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cranbrook. “This is our largest and most important fundraiser of the year. Last year we brought in $20,000, so this year we’ve set an ambitious fundraising goal of $30,000.

“There will be free food, drinks, and prizes donated by local businesses and, of course, plenty of friendly competition. We encourage interested teams to register early to ensure they get a spot, as space is limited to the lanes available.”

The theme of this year’s Bowl For Kids Sake event is ‘Bowling Through the Ages.’ Teams are urged to dress-up in clothing from their favourite decade or century. Upon team registration and securing a lane, each team is committing to a minimum $500 donation, which will be collected on the night of the event. Many individuals choose to collect pledges and last year a number of teams significantly exceeded the $500 minimum donation as a result.

There will be some great prizes up for grabs in categories such as: best costume, most funds raised (by individual and team), highest individual or team score.

“Denham Ford and Teck have come on board as major sponsors of the event this year, as well as Dominos Cranbrook, which will be the food sponsor for the evening,” said MacDonald. “We still have a number of sponsorship opportunities available for businesses wanting to become involved at that level and you can call me directly to learn more.”

This year, teams can register online HERE

Or, teams can take the old fashion route and contact MacDonald at 250-489-3111 or email [email protected].

As teams register, they will be recognized on BBBS social media sites to help build momentum and awareness of the event (if teams permit).

“We recently launched a site-based, in-school mentorship program in collaboration with School District No. 5 and the organization has been working hard over the last year to strengthen our one-to-one mentoring programs as well,” said Lakisha Gjertsen, Board Chair of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cranbrook. “Funds raised from Bowl For Kids Sake will stay local and help ensure the organization has the ability to match children and youth with volunteers in safe mentoring relationships quicker and more effectively.

“The community has shown incredible support for us and we look forward to continuing that momentum with this very fun and important event.”
