Bucks earn first BCHL win over Smoke Eaters

The Cranbrook Bucks earned their first regular season BC Hockey League (BCHL) win over one of the more legendary hockey clubs in Canada yesterday (April 4).

Playing in just their second game in the BCHL Penticton Pod at the South Okanagan Events Centre, the Bucks skated to a 5-3 victory over the Trail Smoke Eaters.

Four Bucks scored their first goals of the season, including Nathan Fox who evened the first period score one apiece, while Noah Quinn gave his club a 2-1 lead heading into the second.

AJ Vasko notched his second marker of the season at 13:23 of the second before Trailā€™s Noah Wakeford beat Bucks netminder Jay Thomson with less than four minutes remaining in the second period for his second of the game.

Cameron Kungle restored the two goal lead just 25 seconds into the third period and Drake Burgin concluded scoring with an empty-netter.

Thomson stopped 21 of 24 Smoke Eatersā€™ shots.

With the win the Bucks are now in second place in the Penticton Pod, two back of the Penticton Vees.

The Bucks take on the Smoke Eaters again in game three, an 8 p.m. (local time) start on Wednesday, April 7.
