CCT presents Amigo’s Blue Guitar starting Feb. 8
Cranbrook Community Theatre (CCT) brings the moving and very relevant production of ‘Amigo’s Blue Guitar’ to the Stage Door Theatre in February.
This is the second production of CCT’s season program.
Written by Canadian playwright Joan MacLeod, ‘Amigo’s Blue Guitar’ tells the story of an El Salvadoran refugee and a family who pulls together to welcome him to Canada. It explores what it means and feels to be a refugee and how to relate to someone who has endured such intense personal grief. The warmth and humour of the characters invite us to embrace the situation—be at once moved and threatened by it—and to consider how we ourselves would react.
Originally presented in 1990, this Canadian play has had worldwide success. Director Alexander Gilmour has gathered an extremely talented local cast and crew, including some new faces. “Think of these productions like flowers. The growing part only a few people see, and the fantastic blossom lasts only a short lifespan.” said Gilmour. “Please come out and support our local talent.”
Amigo’s Blue Guitar runs for 10 performances; February 8 and 9, 14-17 (February 17 is a matinee) and 20-23, at The Stage Door, 11-11th Ave South, Cranbrook. Tickets are available at Lotus Books. All performances at 7:30 p.m., except the matinee at 2 p.m.
CCT has been entertaining Cranbrook and area audiences for more than 50 years. The society strives to promote and develop local talent: on stage, behind the scenes, or in the director’s chair. CCT believes theatre, music, dance, and art play an important part in the community, and are pleased to call the Studio/Stage Door home.
