CCT season opens with I’ll Be Back Before Midnight
Cranbrook Community Theatre opens the 2019-20 theatre season with Peter Colley’s comedy thriller, I’ll Be Back Before Midnight, directed by Landon Elliott.
Playwright, screenwriter, librettist, whose early career began as playwright-in- residence at the Grand Theatre, London, Ontario. Peter Colley has written extensively for the Blyth Festival including the thriller I’ll Be Back Before Midnight, which has played across the country and world-wide. It is considered Canada’s most-produced play. His works have been produced in every province, 46 of the 50 American states and in 19 other countries, outlines Canadian Theatre Encyclopedia.
Elliott has gathered a lovely balance of new and experienced actors to bring this tale to life. Kimberley Frixel, Matthew McKenzie, Bob McCue and Stephanie Kress take on the challenge of this highly technical thriller.
Jan (Frixel) is a young wife recovering from a nervous disorder. She and her husband (McKenzie) rent a remote cabin from an odd farmer (McCue) who delights in telling gruesome ghost stories. Then the husband’s strange sister (Kress) arrives and all manner of frightening events occur. What happens next to fragile Jan as bodies appear and disappear give this classic thriller its tremendously frightening impact. Theatregoers may remember this show when it was onstage at CCT in the late `80`s. 30+ years later we welcome Matt, the son of two of the original cast to his onstage premiere. Producer, Marnée Bellavance played Jan in that production and is anticipates that, if history repeats itself, ticket sales will go quickly, so don’t miss out.
Tickets are available for the first time online at CranbrookCommunityTheatre.com or in person at Huckleberry Books for $17 for CCT Members and $20 for non- members. Performances are October 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25, 26 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee performance on Sunday, October 20 at 2 p.m.
