Community Futures East Kootenay (CFEK) announced today the launch of a feasibility study for the creation of a Co-working Centre (shared workspace) in the City of Cranbrook.

The facility is being designed for entrepreneurs, professionals, and freelancers looking for the opportunity to collaborate in a professional facility without the need to commit to long-term leases, infrastructure investments, and unnecessary overhead.

Co-working spaces often have a variety of workspaces, private offices and meeting rooms that can be used full-time like a traditional office space, or just for a few hours when needed. By bringing together a number of users, co-working facilities often provide access to better equipment than people can afford on their own.

“Co-working centres can act as a community hub, encouraging the interaction of people who might otherwise not connect on a professional basis, creating an environment where skills, services, and networks are shared. This level of activity can play an important role in the development and diversity of our local economies,” said Sean Campbell, General Manager, Community Futures East Kootenay.

The study will provide insight on how entrepreneurs and small business owners in Cranbrook and surrounding communities would use a co-working center, and the services and programs they feel would benefit their businesses.
