Cranbrook Business Walk June 19
The third annual Cranbrook Business Walk is set to go, Tuesday, June 19.
Over 30 volunteers will be canvassing local businesses from 1 to 4 p.m.
“The Cranbrook Business Walk is a day dedicated to learning more about local businesses through face-to-face interviews on their turf,” said Cranbrook Chamber Executive Director David D. Hull. “We will see local leaders and key community stakeholders visit a large number of Cranbrook businesses with the goal of gathering the knowledge they need to help Cranbrook and strengthen relationships.”
The Business Walk is a partnership between Community Futures East Kootenay, City of Cranbrook, Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce and the BC Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training.
“The Business Walk will offer an excellent opportunity to listen to the local business community,” said Community Futures East Kootenay general manager Sean Campbell. “The data will assist in identifying common themes for action while bringing together resources, municipal services and representatives of the business community for specific action plans.”
The goals of Cranbrook Business Walk 2018 are:
- Understand the issues and opportunities of existing Cranbrook business community;
- Quickly diagnose firms on the brink of greatness or that may be at risk
- Build long lasting and effective working relationships between decision makers and local businesses;
- Increase awareness of the programs and services offered by the City Economic Development Department, Chamber of Commerce, Community Futures, Provincial Government and other partners;
- Recognize the impact and value of local businesses;
- Identify those businesses that may require assistance;
- Track the state of the local business community over time with annual Business Walks;
- Provide local businesses with access to information that can help them grow and expand locally.
Teams of two canvassers will work along a designated section of the community with the goal of visiting as many businesses as possible in the three-hour period. In addition to asking questions on a short survey form the team will visit and spent time learning about the business and their particular situation, successes and challenges.
The collated results of the Business Walk will be used to identify needed programs and services to the community. Civic leaders can better connect with businesses in their communities through the face-to-face conversation that is initiated and identify and remove barriers to doing business in their areas
