Cranbrook Canadian Tire donates $5,000 to the CFKR

Mike and Cora Feener, owners of Canadian Tire in Cranbrook, recently donated $5,000 toĀ the Community Foundation of the Kootenay Rockies (CFKR).

Half of that sum, $2,500, will go towards the new KEYSA Indoor Sports Facility, which will be opening soon in Balment Park, next to the Cranbrook Curling Centre.

The remaining $2,500 will be added to the Cranbrook Community Endowment Fund. The interest from this fund provides annual grants, in perpetuity, to support local non-profits that are making a positive impact in our community.

ā€œCFKR sincerely appreciates the wide variety of community initiatives that Mike and Cora have supported, during their time in Cranbrook, including this most recent donation,ā€ said Lynnette Wray, CFKR Executive Director.

Wray added, ā€œThis donation encompasses several of the causes that are near and dear to Mike and Coraā€™s hearts, including a focus on children and youth, sports and recreation, and community services.ā€

Established in 2003 as a federally incorporated not-for-profit and a CRA-registered charity, the Community Foundation of the Kootenay Rockies is governed by a 10-member, volunteer Board of Directors and employs one staff person. CFKR holds a total of $3 million in 41 permanently invested funds. Since its first community grants in 2004, the Community Foundation has shared almost $500,000 with local projects and programs in our communities.
