The City of Cranbrook is listed as the 63^rd best city to live in Canada, according to Money Sense Magazine’s ‘Canada’s Best Places to Live’ recently released rankings.

The annual rankings are taken from measurements in the quality of life in 219 of Canada’s largest communities.

Ten criteria are considered per community, with three city types (small, medium and large). Criteria includes: high incomes; affordable housing; access to health care; healthy population growth; low taxes; low crime; easy to walk, bike, take transit; good weather; and strong arts and sports community.

Cranbrook is trending up, according to Money Sense. It finished one place behind Hamilton, Ont. (62^nd) and ahead of Kitchener, Ont. Nearby Calgary finished 66^th.

The top city in Canada, according to this ranking, is Ottawa, Ont. The top British Columbia community ranked is West Vancouver (seventh) followed by North Vancouver (eighth).

Cranbrook scored well due to access to health care and low taxes. The Key City is the 13^th highest rated city in B.C., one back of Fort. St. John (12^th) and one ahead of Squamish (14^th). In terms of city size rankings, Cranbrook is the seventh top rated city in B.C., out of 30 included in the ‘small’ category.

Cranbrook is the only community in the East Kootenay included in the rankings. The only other Kootenays city to be ranked is Nelson, which finished 115^th in Canada and 22^nd in B.C., one spot behind Surrey and one ahead of Terrace.

However, Nelson, with 3.18 doctors per 1,000 population, is ranked the 10^th best city in Canada in which to retire (for 2016).
