Daley Oddy named U SPORTS player of the year

St. Francis Xavier University (StFX) forward Daley Oddy was honoured with the Brodrick Trophy as U SPORTS women’s hockey Player of the Year recently, as national award winners were celebrated at the annual All-Canadian gala. Oddy hails from Cranbrook.

U SPORTS is the national governing body of university sport in Canada.

A fifth-year human kinetics student from Cranbrook, Daley Oddy is the U SPORTS Player of the Year. The captain of the X-Women, Oddy led the nation in both points (31) and goals scored this season (16).

An AUS all-star in all five seasons she has played at StFX, the versatile forward helped guide the X-Women to a first-place finish in the regular season, with a 20-2-2 record, and the team did not miss a week being ranked in the U SPORTS Top 10.

Oddy’s plus-minus rating of plus-24 was also the highest in the country, while her six game-winning goals and six power play markers were tops in all of U SPORTS.

“Daley is very deserving of the U SPORTS Player of the Year award because of the way she plays the game,” said StFX head coach Ben Berthiuam. “She is one of the hardest working players on the ice who works just as hard on the defensive side of the puck as the offensive side. She is the type of player who can take over a game, and she has scored some huge goals for us this year. Daley has also turned into a great leader for our team which will be a big asset to her in the future.”

St. Francis Xavier University is located in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.
