David Kim resigns as Cranbrook CAO
The City of Cranbrook announced this afternoon (June 1) that long absent Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) David Kim has resigned to start a new chapter of his career while being closer to his family and friends.
Kim has been on an extended leave of absence from the city since spring 2019.
The CAO is the sole contract position in the city that is recruited by and reports directly to the Mayor and members of city council, a city media release noted.
“During his time with the municipality, David was instrumental in strengthening the customer service focus of the organization, while fostering local economic growth, creating solutions around infrastructure and improving city operations to enhance the quality of life of those who live, invest and do business here,” the media release outlined.
Summing up Kim’s work, Mayor Lee Pratt said, “David was an innovative thinker in improving our infrastructure and simplifying our development approval process. His engineering background was a huge asset to our organization.”
Kim joined the city in March 2016, bringing with him over 20 years of leadership experience in both the public and private sectors, such as working with the City of Calgary in various professional & leadership fields including managing the Urban Development Department and a few years with R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited, as a Vice President of Land Development.
“Mayor Pratt, Council and the City of Cranbrook thank David for his valuable contributions to the city and wish him the very best in his future plans.”
Ron Fraser will continue as the Interim CAO during this time of transition to ensure city services and work plans move ahead without interruption. The city will begin the recruitment process for a new CAO in the coming weeks, it explained.
