Final Story Walk of the summer this August

Downtown Cranbrook invites you, and the young children in your life, on the last story walk of the summer, for the whole month of August! With the help of a map, walk between several storefront windows, and read a story a couple of pages at a time.

Maybe you have already been on the story walk in June and July? In August, the story switches from “The Gruffalo” to “Elmer’s Walk.”  The actual switch over day will be July 30 in the afternoon and it will be taken down on September 1.

Just like in June and July, the story walk starts at the Cranbrook Public Library, where you will receive your map.

This month’s story walk is a little bit shorter, so be sure you get a new map from the library before getting started. You can participate in each month’s story walk at any time throughout the month — just check the library’s hours to make sure it is open when you want to get started.

Enter to win a prize: There will be a magical animal hidden on three of the pages that doesn’t belong in the story. When you read the story, take a good look at the pictures and see if you can find it. Return to the library at the end of your walk to enter your name and the name of the hidden animal for a chance to win a prize.

There will be a variety of prizes from local businesses/organizations. The last draw will happen in the first week of September.

The Cranbrook story walk was inspired by a similar story walk in Salmon Arm – thanks to Rita from Child Care Resource and Referral for sharing this idea. Thanks to all the participating businesses /organizations, and to those who donated prizes. Thanks to Staples for giving us a great deal on laminating our stories! Thanks to the Cranbrook Public Library for taking on a lead role in this activity and to Niki with the Community Action Program for Children for putting it all together.

Thanks to all of you for participating!

If you have any questions, call or text Niki at: 250-421-8096 or find CAPC Cranbrook on Facebook.
