Hectic early Saturday morning for Cranbrook SAR

On March 27, Cranbrook Search and Rescue (SAR) had an early wake-up call at 4:14 a.m. from RCMP for a vehicle spotted in the Kootenay River.

At the same time Cranbrook SAR received a secondary call for a missing male up Peavine.

RCMP members were able to locate the male as SAR was preparing to deploy.

SAR focused efforts on locating the vehicle in the river.

Searching was difficult without daylight. As soon as daylight cracked and a helicopter became available, an A-Star from Bighorn Helicopters was launched.

The helicopter flew the river and was able to locate the vehicle in the river.

No one was inside the vehicle and it appeared to be abandoned.

The teams were able to return to base, and return home by 10 a.m.
