Heidi Brookes show this week at Cranbrook Arts

Heidi Brookes

The exhibit in Cranbrook and District Arts Council shop and gallery beginning this week, October 23 is that of Cranbrook artist Heidi Brookes.

Heidi grew up on Vancouver Island and but has spent a lot of time in small towns in B.C. including her present home, Cranbrook. Her coastal experiences and wildlife encounters around our province are what have inspired her work.

The dampness of the coast and the dry interior air add climate related elements to her work. Heidi says, “Most things inspire me. Beauty, kindness, storms, rain, leaves, garbage. Everywhere I go I see things broken down into shapes, shadows and colour.”

When asked what is the best artist tip ever received, she said, “to not take criticism to heart because art is subjective and no one person or even a number of people can define what is good and bad art.” Good advice for all those who love to create.

Upcoming at Cranbrook Arts

For those who would like to come and create in the next couple of weeks, Cranbrook Arts is offering ‘Alcohol Inks 101’ with Darlene Purnell on Saturday, October 27.

John de Jong returns for the weekend of November 3 and 4 to paint an acrylic winter scene with participants. Both classes are suitable for beginners.

For either or both workshops please register at 1013, Baker St.

For the end of November and December the Gallery will be dedicated to Gift Shop sales. Don’t forget to come and see the work of our many talented area artists. Members receive advance notice of upcoming workshops and exhibits so memberships also make great gifts.

See you in the Gallery.
