ICE add Carson Lambos with second overall pick

The Kootenay ICE added the top ranked defenseman available in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft this morning (May 3) in Red Deer when the club selected 2003-born Carson Lambos second overall.

Lambos, from Winnipeg, Manitoba, played the 2017-18 season for the Rink Hockey Academy (RHA) Bantam Prep of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL).

In 30 regular season games, Lambos registered 15 goals and 25 assists for 40 points. He followed that up with five goals and 11 points in five playoff games.

During the regular season, the six-foot, 180-pounder led all defensemen in points in the CSSHL’s Bantam Prep league. The 15 year old recorded the most goals, assists and points out of any defenseman on the RHA Bantam Prep team and also had the second-most points on the squad.

In addition, Lambos was named the 2017-18 CSSHL Bantam Prep Top Defenseman.

Lambos is the first defenseman to be selected by the ICE in the first round of the WHL Bantam Draft since Griffin Mendel was taken 11th overall in 2014.

The Edmonton Oil Kings had the first overall selection and chose hometown forward Dylan Guenther of Northern Alberta Xtreme Bntm Prep.
