It’s GoByBike Cranbrook Week Sept. 28-Oct. 4

Summer has waned under smoky skies and thoughts are now of cooler days to come.

The fall season here in the Kootenays is spectacular with Tamarack yellow transforming the landscape. We have just a few weeks left now to get on our bikes and cycle around our beautiful community before the snow flies.

The Sunrise Rotary Club of Cranbrook is thrilled to have been tasked with the role of coordinating the 2020 GoByBikeBC Week for Cranbrook. Normally this special week concentrates on the themes of Bike to Work and Bike to School; however, due to the Covid19 pandemic the focus has changed to GoByBike anytime and anywhere.

Local activities have been planned to comply with the provincial health COVID-19 physical distancing rules.

Each year, GoByBike BC’s Spring & Fall Bike to Work & School Week encourages British Columbian’s to choose their bicycles for transportation rather than a motor vehicle: Converting sedentary time behind the steering wheel, into time pedaling their bicycle wheels; enjoying healthy, environmentally friendly, active transportation.

During the last spring event (2019), 56,074 riders cycled 2.97 million kilometers (rather than drove those kilometres via motor vehicle) and saved 644,005 kilograms of greenhouse gases from entering our atmosphere. A total of 89.1 million calories were burned during this event!

With a heavy heart, GoByBikeBC Society decided to postpone the 2020 Spring event due to COVID-19. We are more than excited to announce that the fall GoByBike event will take place September 28 – October 4, following the Health Minister’s guidelines for social distancing.

Any time you use your bike for transportation instead of a motorized vehicle between September 28 – October 4, you can log those trips and qualify for one of many prize draws including the grand prize trip for two sponsored by Exodus Travels!

“GoByBike BC Society wishes to stress that provincial health COVID-19 physical distancing rules remain in effect. Please continue to respect all health guidelines for physical distancing and cycle responsibly.”
