JCI Fun Run raises funds for ALS Society of BC

Back on June 3, members of the community took part in the JCI Kootenay Fun Run, a 5/10 km colour run/walk at Moir Park.  JCI Kootenay received generous support from community members, sponsors and donors, and with the final numbers now in, are proud to announce they have raised $5,535 for the ALS Society of BC.

In addition to the 5/10KM run, the fundraising event included children activities, food trucks, vendors, a DJ and a “Most Colourful Runner” Contest.

This is the eighth year that a Fun Run took place in Cranbrook. Formerly known as the Spring Honda Fun Run, the founding organizers passed on the run to local non-profit organization JCI Kootenay. While the name of the event changed, Spring Honda was once again onboard as this year’s headline sponsor.

Event Chair and JCI Kootenay Member Jordan MacDonald is pleased with the outcome and the opportunity to raise funds for ALS BC. MacDonald says taking over the Fun Run has been a valuable development opportunity for the local JCI chapter:

“This was a huge event for our membership to take on and I’m proud of our chapter’s success in raising funds for such a worthy cause. Organizing the JCI Kootenay Fun Run was a great way for our members to create positive change by supporting the work of ALS BC.  Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a devastating disease for which there is still no cure.”

The ALS Society of BC is dedicated to providing direct support to ALS patients, along with their families and caregivers, to ensure the best quality of life possible while living with ALS.  In partnership with the ALS Canada, ALS BC raises funds to support research for a cure.

JCI is a nonprofit organization which provides development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change. The organization has over 200,000 members and 5000 local chapters world wide.  JCI Kootenay has been active in Cranbrook since 2004.
