Joan MacKinnon succumbs from injuries

A terrible highway crash that occurred Saturday, Feb. 3 near Irishman Creek has claimed another life.

Joan MacKinnon, wife of Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services Captain Clayton Murrell, died in Kelowna earlier today.

Cranbrook Professional Fire Fighters Local 1253 released a brief statement on social media on behalf of the family.

“Joan’s family has asked us to release the following statement. Today our Joan has left this world to be with the man whom she loved. Joan’s struggle is now over and she has Peace.

“Joan’s family thanks you all for your prayers and well wishes. They are in awe of the love everyone has shared with them. Joan’s organs will be donated so she can give the gift of life to others.

Dates and location for a joint celebration of life will be announced in the days to come … …today heaven received a beautiful soul both inside and out.”

Clayton and the driver of the tractor-trailer involved in the Highway 3/95 crash were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two horses being towed by Clayton and Joan were also killed.
