Kootenay Comedy Festival heading to Cranbrook
A new opportunity for comedy fans is coming to Cranbrook in September, in the form of the first Kootenay Comedy Festival.
There will be two shows for comedy fans, and also two workshops for those who think they might have what it takes to bring the funny.
Opening the festival on the Friday night are co-headliners Sarah Stupar and Katie Westman. Katie is originally from Okotoks, Alta., but attended the College of the Rockies for nursing and now tours nationally as a stand up. Cranbrook native Sarah Stupar has been producing and performing on comedy shows in Vancouver for the past three years and started this festival to fill the comedy void in Cranbrook.
Hometown hero and professional touring comedian Mark McCue will be returning to Cranbrook to headline his birthday show on September 7 at 8 p.m.
The shows will take place at The Comedy Circus at 20-10th Avenue South in downtown Cranbrook and will cost $15 each. Folks can expect professional comedy that speaks to local experiences!
The two workshops take place on Saturday, Sept. 7. Comedy Writing will happen at 1 p.m. and Intro to Stand up Comedy at 2:30 p.m. and each and will cost $5. The proceeds from the workshops will be donated to Cranbrook Pride.
The Festival chose to support the Cranbrook Pride Organization with the goal of establishing a comedy scene in Cranbrook that is open and inclusive and encourages participation from diverse communities.
A late night open mic will give workshop attendees a chance to try out their jokes.

About Crowhead Productions: Founded by Cranbrook native Sarah Stupar, Crowhead is a production company that specializes in live events and film. Before relocating to Cranbrook, Crowhead produced a monthly cabaret show in Vancouver along with several short films. With previous event planning experience gleaned from the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, Just For Laughs in Montreal, and the Kelowna Parks Alive! Live music series, Sarah is pleased to bring her skills back to her hometown.
