Kootenay ICE add experience to blue line

The Kootenay ICE announced Jan. 10 that it acquired 1999-born defenceman Chase Hartje in a trade with the Brandon Wheat Kings, in exchange for a 2019 third round draft pick.

The draft pick sent to Brandon was acquired by the ICE from Red Deer earlier this season.

Hartje, from Bemidji, Minnesota, played in 35 games with the Wheat Kings this season, recording four goals and eight assists for 12 points. Throughout his WHL career, Hartje has played in 93 regular season games, registering seven goals and 30 assists for 37 points. Hartje has also played in 11 playoff games, recording two assists.

“Chase will add skill and experience to our blue line immediately,” said Matt Cockell, President and General Manager. “We are excited to add him to our group and expect him to be a solid 20-year-old player for our team next season.”

The next home game for the ICE is the Pink the Rink Be a Superhero Anti-Bullying Game on Saturday, January 26, with the Prince Albert Raiders in town.
