Local named to B.C. Women’s U18 Provincial Team

Cranbrook’s Jaimee Spring (pictured) has been named to the B.C. Women’s U18 Provincial Team and will compete in the 2021 Western Regional Women’s U18 Championship set to be held in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, November 1-6.

The final roster for Team BC consists of two goaltenders, seven defencemen, and 11 forwards from across British Columbia and Yukon. The full roster can be viewed here.

“We are extremely pleased to be at this point after all of the uncertainty that has been clouding the U18 Female program,” Commissioner of BC Hockey’s Program of Excellence Fred Zweep said. “There were some very hard decisions that we had to make when trimming this roster down to just 20 players and excited to see them on the ice with the opportunity to play in a meaningful tournament.”

Team BC will enter the tournament looking to improve on their previous two tournament appearances. They claimed the bronze medal at the 2019 Canada Winter Games back in March 2019 and followed that up by finishing in fifth place at the 2019 National Women’s U18 Championship in November 2019.

Team B.C. will play its first game of the tournament against Team Manitoba on Tuesday November 2 at 5:30 p.m. MST.

All games will be broadcast on Hockey TV, right through to the Gold Medal final on Saturday November 6 at 2:30 p.m. MST.

The Western Canadian Championships will be one of the girl’s last chances to impress National Team scouts and coaches before final selection of the Canadian U18 National Team that will travel to Sweden in early January for the 2022 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championships.
