Man in custody on several weapons offences

A Cranbrook resident is currently in custody and facing several charges after assaulting a male with bear spray on July 8.

Cranbrook RCMP was made aware of an assault which had occurred in a residence in the 600 block of 16th Ave S. Officers applied for and were granted a search warrant for the residence and once inside located several items including bear spray, a sawed off shot gun, sawed off rifle and other prohibited weapons.

A male was arrested at the residence and taken into custody.

The accused, Daniel Edward McMillan, is currently facing 10 charges including Assault with a Weapon, Possession of Restricted Firearms (x three), Possess Prohibited Weapon, Possess Weapon while Prohibited, Breach of Probation (x three) and charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

“The Crime Reduction Unit of the Cranbrook RCMP was instrumental in getting these weapons off the streets to ensure the safety of the public,” said Cst. Katie Forgeron.
