New sculpture installed at Idlewild Park
A new arts project in Idlewild Park was facilitated by Cranbrook and District Arts Council and made possible through our application and funds received for a Public Art Grant from Columbia Basin Trust.
Cranbrook Arts would like to thank Columbia Basin Trust, the Regional District of the East Kootenay and the City of Cranbrook for their contribution to this permanent installation.
The sculpture will be completed with an interpretive sign and formally recognized at the grand opening of the newly restored Idlewild Park.
The hand-forged iron sculpture by Cranbrook sculptor Paul Reimer is inspired by Joseph Creek flowing through the City of Cranbrook, a living symbol if the importance of connecting with our environment, our community and with each other.
It celebrates the very important relationship we have with nature and how the breathtaking beauty of the Kootenays enriches our lives in so many ways. Like Joseph Creek, the sculpture is fluid and full of movement and highlights the interaction between land and water. In this way, it expresses the balance we strive for between people and the environment, between industry and nature and between individuals and community.
