New Story Walk downtown in July

A Mouse took a stroll through the deep dark wood…

Discover what happens when a quick-thinking mouse comes face to face with an owl, a snake and a hungry Gruffalo!

Downtown Cranbrook invites you, and the young children in your life, on a story walk! With the help of a map, walk between several storefront windows, and read a story a couple of pages at a time.

Maybe you have already been on the story walk in June? In July, the story switches from “Sheep Take a Hike” to “The Gruffalo” and in August will be our last story, “Elmer’s Walk.”

The story walks will always start at the Cranbrook Public Library, where you will receive your map. You can participate in each month’s story walk at any time throughout the month — just check the library’s hours to make sure it is open when you want to get started.

Enter to win a prize: In June you had to unscramble letters. This time, there will be a magical animal hidden on three of the pages that doesn’t belong in the story. When you read the story, take a good look at the pictures and see if you can find it. Return to the library at the end of your walk to enter your name and the name of the hidden animal for a chance to win a prize.

There will be a variety of prizes from local businesses/organizations. The draws will happen in the first week of July, August and September.

The Cranbrook story walk was inspired by a similar story walk in Salmon Arm – thanks to Rita from Child Care Resource and Referral for sharing this idea. Thanks to all the participating businesses/ organizations, and to those who donated prizes. Thanks to Staples for giving us a great deal on laminating our stories!

Thanks to the Cranbrook Public Library for taking on a lead role in this activity and to Niki with the Community Action Program for Children for putting it all together.

Thanks to all of you for participating!

If you have any questions, call or text Niki at: 250-421-8096 or find CAPC Cranbrook on Facebook.
